ROSE HAUGH
Comfortable self-catering in beautiful Galloway
This dignified old house in the small village of Laurieston in Dumfries and Galloway was once the village shop and Post Office, now converted to a holiday retreat with a beautiful garden. Families with children or just couples on their own can be equally at home in its old-world charm.
Laurieston village lies in the valley of the rivers Ken and Dee, right on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, designated as a Dark Sky Park because of its remote location far from any urban light glow. It is an excellent centre for exploring the beautiful Galloway landscape of hills, lochs and forests and the Solway coastline. A rural location among farmland and forest, yet busy with its own weather station, photo-gallery and artisan bakery.

Walkers can find everything from gentle forest rambles to strenuous days in the Galloway hills. The Southern Upland Way crosses the hills about 15 miles north of the village. We are right on the Galloway KIte Trail, following the recent introduction of red kites to the area. Galloway is a haven for all kinds of wildlife and there are half a dozen wildlife reserves within easy reach, good for coastal, wetland and woodland birds. The National Cycle Network runs through the area and the Forestry Commission’s 7-stanes cycle routes provide extensive forest sections for mountain biking. The mild climate supports several famous gardens. And there are lots of things for the kids - activity centres, open farms, ice cream or chocolate making, or just playing on the beach.
